Delivery

How Parrot Delivery Works: Air Cargo to the UK & Ireland

Receiving a parrot by air cargo is a safe, well-regulated process when handled by a specialist breeder. This guide walks you through exactly how delivery from our aviary in Valencia, Spain, to the UK and Ireland works — from preparation to collection at the airport.

The journey

Your bird is transported by specialist live-animal air cargo. The route from Valencia (VLC) typically connects through a major hub (Madrid Barajas or a Northern European hub) before arriving at the UK collection airport — usually London Heathrow (LHR), Manchester (MAN), Birmingham (BHX), or Glasgow (GLA) for UK buyers; Dublin (DUB) for Irish buyers.

The entire journey from aviary departure to airport collection typically takes 6–14 hours depending on connection times and routing. This is entirely normal for international live-animal movements and is well within welfare guidelines for healthy, acclimatised birds.

The travel crate

All birds travel in IATA-compliant live-animal crates — purpose-built containers with adequate ventilation, a non-slip floor, and appropriate space for the bird's size and species. The crate contains food and a water gel pad. The bird has been introduced to the crate prior to travel to reduce stress. Our team ensures every bird is in excellent condition before departure.

Collection at the airport

On arrival, the cargo must clear Border Control Post (BCP) veterinary inspection. This typically takes 1–4 hours after the flight lands. We provide you with the expected collection window in advance. You will need to bring: your ID, the delivery reference number we provide, and a suitable carrier or travel cage for the onward journey home. Our documentation (AHC, CITES) travels with the bird.

First hours at home

When you get the bird home, set it up in its pre-prepared cage in a quiet area. Offer water and familiar food (we advise you on what the bird is eating before departure). Allow the bird to settle without pressure for interaction — the travel is tiring, and a quiet few hours of adjustment makes the transition significantly smoother.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is air cargo stressful for parrots?

Any change of environment involves some stress, and transport is no exception. However, a healthy, well-socialised hand-raised bird that has been introduced to the travel crate handles the journey far better than is often assumed. We take significant care in preparation and ensure all birds are in optimal condition before travel.

What happens if the flight is delayed?

Air cargo delay procedures are well established. Birds are held in temperature-controlled animal holding facilities at airports during extended delays. We monitor all shipments and keep you informed of any changes to the expected arrival time.
