The Delivery Process — Step by Step

1

Initial Enquiry & Reservation

Contact us at paraisodeloros@gmail.com to discuss available birds, species, pricing, and timing. A deposit confirms your reservation and initiates the documentation process. We will share photos and video updates of your bird throughout the preparation period.

2

Documentation Preparation (4–8 weeks)

We apply for the Spanish CITES export permit (takes 4–6 weeks). Simultaneously, for CITES Appendix I species (African Grey, Hyacinth Macaw, Scarlet Macaw), we guide you through applying for your UK/Irish CITES import permit. We prepare the veterinary health certificate within 10 days of travel.

3

Travel Crate Preparation

We select and prepare an IATA Live Animal Regulation (LAR)-compliant crate sized appropriately for your species. The bird is acclimated to the crate in the days before departure. Food and water are provisioned for the journey.

4

Air Cargo Booking

We book with a specialist live-animal freight forwarder who works with IATA-approved airlines. You receive the air waybill number to track your bird's journey online.

5

Flight Day

The bird departs from Valencia Airport (VLC) or Madrid Barajas (MAD) depending on routing. Transit time to UK airports is typically 4–8 hours flight time, plus ground handling at both ends.

6

Border Inspection on Arrival

Your bird is inspected at the Border Control Post at the arrival airport. This typically takes 2–4 hours. We remain in contact with you and the freight handler throughout. Once cleared, you collect from the cargo terminal with your ID and import documentation.

CITES Documentation Requirements

The specific documentation required depends on the species' CITES classification:

CITES AppendixSpecies ExamplesRequired Documentation
Appendix IAfrican Grey, Hyacinth Macaw, Scarlet MacawSpanish CITES Export Permit + UK/IE CITES Import Permit (Article 10) + Vet Health Certificate
Appendix IIBlue-and-Yellow Macaw, Amazon, Cockatoo, Eclectus, Conures, Caique, PionusSpanish CITES Export Permit + UK/IE Import Notification + Vet Health Certificate
We handle the Spanish side. We prepare and file all export documentation from Spain. For UK/IE import permits (required for Appendix I species), we guide you through every step of the application — or can refer you to an APHA-registered documentation agent if you prefer professional assistance.

What's Included in the Delivery Price

Not included: UK/IE import permit application fees (for Appendix I species; typically £60–£150); any charges at the border inspection point.
