Importing a Parrot into Ireland

Importing a parrot into the Republic of Ireland from another EU country such as Spain is governed by EU CITES regulations and EU animal health rules. This guide explains the current process for Irish buyers purchasing a parrot from our aviary in Valencia.

Ireland as an EU member

The Republic of Ireland remains a member of the European Union, meaning trade in live animals between Spain and Ireland is governed by EU internal market rules. This is significantly simpler than the UK situation post-Brexit. For most captive-bred, ring-identified parrots with proper documentation, the process is straightforward.

Transport to Ireland

We transport parrots to Ireland via specialist live-animal air cargo. Birds travel in IATA-compliant crates with food, water, and appropriate ventilation. The most common route is Valencia → Dublin Airport. Collection by the buyer or arrangement of onward transport from Dublin is required. We provide full guidance on the arrival process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Irish buyers need a CITES permit?

For most captive-bred CITES Appendix II species, no individual Irish import permit is required — the EU CITES export permit from Spain is sufficient. For Appendix I species (African Greys, Hyacinth Macaws), an EU import permit may be required depending on current Irish NPWS guidance. We assist with all documentation.

Can you deliver to cities outside Dublin?

We deliver to Dublin Airport by air cargo. Irish buyers can arrange onward transport from Dublin, or in some cases we can arrange direct delivery through our Irish logistics partners. Contact us to discuss your location.
